If you have braces in Cleburne as an adult, you may find yourself spiraling about how your coworkers are going to perceive your new look. Although your smile may look a little different now, remember that you’re just as professional and capable as you were before! Read on for four helpful tips to help adjust to wearing braces at work.
Put Together a Travel-Sized Braces Care Kit
Before your first day back at work after getting your braces, take some time to put together an on-the-go care kit that you can take to your office. You’ll want to make sure it includes everything you need to keep your mouth healthy as well as ease any discomfort as you’re getting used to how they feel. First, invest in a small bag that you love and that’s easy to bring with you to the office. Then, stock it with orthodontic wax, dental floss, toothpaste, a soft-bristled toothbrush, and some chapstick. That way, you’ll always have whatever you need on you at all times.
Keep a Reusable Water Bottle on You
After you eat a snack or lunch, you may not be able to brush and floss your teeth right away. Not only is staying hydrated good for your oral health, but it can also help rinse away food particles and debris from your brackets and wires. Filling your bottle with sugar-free flavored or regular water will also keep you away from drinking any tempting sugary sodas or energy drinks on your break!
Be Mindful of What You Eat for Lunch
With braces, there are certain foods that you’ll simply want to avoid, such as those that are excessively sticky or chewy. Because of this, you may need to adjust the foods that you pack for lunch. Try to bring foods that are softer and not so crunchy, or that can be cut or broken into smaller pieces that are easier to chew.
Remember to Smile & Stay Confident!
It’s true that your smile may look a little different with braces, but you’re still you! You’re just as capable and professional as anybody else in your office. Stay proud of yourself and don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed because you’re making a change and bettering your health!
