Traveling with Invisalign? Here’s What You Should Know

The holiday season is officially in full swing! If you live away from home, you may be traveling to visit your loved ones in the coming months. Traveling while undergoing Invisalign treatment may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be that way at all! There are many steps you can take to help you stay on track with your treatment plan. With that in mind, a dentist in Cleburne shares a few ways you can stick with the program.

Pack the Essentials

Don’t forget to prepare a travel kit that contains all your dental care essentials! If you’ve traveled in the past, you probably already have one that includes everything you need for traveling with Invisalign. Regardless, here are some essential items your kit should include:

  • Toothbrush – It’s a good idea to pack multiple toothbrushes in several convenient locations, such as your suitcase, carry-on, and handbag. That way, you always have your toothbrush on hand to clean your teeth after eating or drinking.
  • Dental Floss – You’ll need some dental floss to thoroughly clean between your teeth at least once a day.
  • Mouthwash – Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash is a great way to eliminate any lingering debris that brushing alone can’t remove.

Stay On Top of Your Oral Hygiene Routine

The holidays may seem like the perfect time to take a break from your day-to-day responsibilities, but that shouldn’t apply to your oral hygiene routine. Slacking off could increase your chances of dental problems and put your smile at risk. Therefore, you must continue to brush your teeth twice a day and floss every night before bed. Make sure you wear your Invisalign aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day as well! You can set a timer to remind you so you don’t fall behind on your progress.

Bring Extra Aligners

Pack an extra set of aligners just in case. That way, you can easily continue your treatment plan while away from home. And if you happen to lose a plastic tray, don’t panic! Get in touch with your dentist or orthodontist and they’ll provide you with instructions on what to do in the meantime.

Make Sure the Tap Water is Safe

Depending on where you’re going, you may need to be careful about the water you’re using. If tap water is considered unsafe to consume, you should avoid using it to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth. Always keep a bottle of safe water on hand just in case you need it!

Visit Your Dentist Before You Depart

Schedule an appointment with your dentist or orthodontist before you depart. They’ll perform an oral examination, monitor your progress, and give you advice to help you stay on top of your treatment plan while away from home. If you have extended travel plans, they can also discuss making adjustments to upcoming appointments.

Don’t forget to follow your Invisalign treatment plan this holiday season. By using the tips outlined above, you can enjoy your vacation without having to worry about ruining your progress!
